FLAGLER COUNTY FIRST TO JOIN ENERGY EFFICIENCIES FINANCING PROGRAM
Participating counties can access funds in 60 days
ORLANDO, Fla. – Feb 12, 2013 – Florida PACE (Property Assessed Clean Energy) Funding Agency today announced that Flagler County has subscribed to its innovative financing program for energy efficiency, renewable generation and wind-hardening improvements to benefit property owners and increase construction jobs countywide. Flagler is the first county in Florida to subscribe to Florida PACE Funding Agency’s program making its residential and commercial property owners eligible to begin projects by spring.
“We welcome Flagler County as the flagship Florida county to become a subscriber to PACE,” said Mike Steigerwald, Executive Director for Florida PACE Funding Agency. “For Flagler citizens who are owners of residential or commercial properties, this will mean expedited access to funds for protection of their properties from Florida’s hurricanes, mitigation of rising energy costs through energy efficiency improvements, and increases in property value related to the improvements.”
At a recent meeting of the Flagler County Board of County Commissioners, discussions led by Commissioners Barbara S. Revels and George Hanns supported the idea of Flagler becoming a subscribing county to FPFA. During public comments, representatives from the Florida Home Builders Association and prominent HVAC and solar energy firms also supported the agreement, noting that there is no cost or legal/financial risk to the county, and the economic impact and even job creation without federal, state or local funding would be a huge benefit.
“We are excited to finally have an alternative funding source for our residents to improve their homes and business building’s energy efficiency and resistance to storm events,” said Commissioner Revels. “Flagler County is extremely proud to be the first PACE subscribing county across the state and are ready to begin our Contractor education and community outreach.”
Early county subscribers place themselves at a significant advantage to maximize benefits to their residential and business constituents. Contractor applications will be available by the end of February and residential, small commercial and large commercial financing applications will be available within the next 30 days.
Continued Commissioner Revels, “Not only is this good news for home and business owners, it also will fill a void on the jobs front – employing many construction professionals who lost work during the recession. The PACE Funding program will help lower our unemployment rate and generate sales for suppliers, and those dollars will ripple through our community again and again.”
